The TRI Talks 2024 Series opens its doors on Wednesday 23rd October, 1pm (ET) with a presentation from Dr Samuel Gourion-Arsiquaud, Director of Skin Bio- Substrates, TRI Princeton, titled ‘Advanced Vibrational Spectroscopic Platform Uses at TRI to Support Cosmetic Science: Special Focus on Sunscreen Evaluation’.  It is free to join all the talks on-line.  To register for the series (live-streamed and on play back) click here.

The TRI Talks in 2024 will focus on both skin and hair science. The presentations will run as follows:

• Wed 20th November, 1pm ET.  Unveiling the Skin: How Skin Microscopy Supports Product Innovation, Claims Testing, and Research, Dr Jessica Cardenas Turner (TRI Princeton)
  

• Wed 4th December, 1pm ET.  Trading Textures with Flat Ironing: A Case of the Eroding Cortex with the Permanent Change in Curl Type, Ayinoluwa Abegunde (TRI Princeton)

As usual, people registered to attend on-line can participate actively in the Q&A at the end of each talk. Presentations will also be available to watch for 3 months after the event on the TRI Talks 2024 Attendee Hub website.  They will then be transferred to the TRI Library.

Skin Course 2024: Back Live Again, For the First Time Since 2019

Registrations are still open for the TRI Principles of Skin Measurement Science and Claims course that will take place this year on 11th and 12th September.  This year the course will run as a hybrid event.  Attendees can join either in person at TRI, or fully online.   This is the first live skin course since 2019, i.e. since the COVID pandemic.

The Principles of Skin Measurement Science & Claims course at TRI is designed for anyone involved in the development of new skin care products. The intensive two-day programme is designed for anyone who needs to build their knowledge rapidly in the measurement techniques used in the development of new skin products and to support skin claims.

The course will include:

• Session 1 - An Introduction to Skin and Skin Testing

• Session 2 - Skin Testing Methods Available from the Skin & Biosubstrates Team at TRI

• Session 3 - The Latest Developments in Skin Testing Methods

• Laboratory demos (skin moisture testing, FTIR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, facial imaging methods, microscopy of skin sections, and skin mechanical testing)

Registration for attending both days in-person costs $325.00.  In person attendees will be to able attend all the lectures in the TRI Seminar Room, join in an evening social event in the TRI (outdoor barbeque and jazz band), and participate in laboratory demos of skin testing methods.  Places are strictly limited, so please book early to secure your place.

Online registration costs $250.  Those online will be able to watch the lectures (live and on playback), participate in the Q&A after each lecture, and join Kahoot! quizzes to test their new skin testing knowledge.

Skin & Bio-Sustrates Team Present Work at ISBS Conference in New Orleans

Dr Samuel Gourion-Arsiquaud and Dr Jessica Turner from TRI’s Skin and Bio-substrates Team gave two podium presentations at the recent International Society of Biophysics and Imaging of The Skin (ISBS) World Congress held in New Orleans, USA, on June 4-6th, 2024. The presentations, titled ‘The Impact of External Factors on Peptide Penetration Inside Human Skin Samples Visualized by Fluorescence Microscopy’ and ‘Climate Change and Sunscreen Toxicity: The Penetration of Organic UV Filters into Human Skin Increases with High External Temperatures’ are both available to read now in the TRI Library.

The theme of the ISBS World Congress this year was ‘Population and Climate Diversity…Under Your Skin’. In other words, how the environment and skin types affect skin health.  Very much in sync with this theme, Samuel presented recent work from TRI showing how organic sunscreens can be absorbed by the skin and how high temperature climates can enhance this skin penetration. In a similar vein, Jessica shared recent experimental data that showed that sunlight damage to the skin can enable the penetration of peptides through the skin. She argued that increased solar exposure could lead to the absorption of irritant materials, such as airborne particulate pollutants, in polluted regions of the world. Both presentations are available to read in the TRI Library.
