Consumers often like to straighten their hair and to control frizz and flyaway. They like to do this using specialized hair products, such as straightening balms, serums, and hair sprays, and by using heat straightening devices.

This image analysis uses polarized light to determine the orientation of the hair in each part of an image of a sample tress.  Data analysis is then able to quantify the appearance of the hair using a straightness coefficient and an alignment coefficient.

This test method can be used for the quantification of hair straightening and frizz control benefits.  For example, it can be used to look at the effectiveness of different heat straightening devices.  It can also be used to investigate the alignment and frizz control effects of different test treatments, such as straightening balms, serums, and hair sprays.
