Claims Testing
Whether working in the hair, skin, nailcare, decorative cosmetics or textile industries, technical verification of a product’s performance is often at the heart of constructing attractive marketing claims. TRI’s highly experienced team of scientists offer a wide variety of measurement techniques to assess the effects of raw materials, finished products and appliances on hair, skin and nails, and our technical reports are recognized by regulators and advertising authorities around the world as being unbiased and of high quality.
Our team’s strong academic grounding means that they are leaders in their field, regularly presenting work at national and international conferences and publishing in leading journals. Finally, our consultative approach means that we listen to clients and ensure we understand their needs, drawing on our extensive experience to run the correct experiments and collect appropriate data.

Consultation Process
Part of TRI’s not-for-profit mission is to support businesses and entrepreneurs through sharing our expertise and experience in claims testing. Each project is different, so we like to spend time with our clients to understand what it is, exactly, they need, and to offer the most cost effective and practical solutions. This expert consultancy comes at no extra cost to our clients.
TRI does not offer a price list for our tests, since each protocol we develop is different. Prices vary according to the size and complexity of the test protocols. There are also discounts to TRI Member Companies, and for pre-payment.
Clinical and pre-clinical tests will take several weeks to complete. However, laboratory-based tests usually take 3-4 weeks to perform; from receipt of your samples at TRI, to issuing the study report. Exact timings will depend on the workload at the time. TRI Member Companies are given priority for testing slots. Tests can be expedited, if necessary, for an extra charge.
TRI’s support for clients doesn’t stop after the study report has been sent-out. We are always happy to run through the data and to help you interpret your findings. TRI cannot, however, underwrite claims packages. For this you will need a claims lawyer or regulatory affairs specialist.
All the data collected in claims studies performed by TRI remains the property of the clients and will not be shared with any third party, unless express permission is given.

Quality Assurance

TRI has an active Quality Assurance (QA) team and procedures in place to perform our work reproducibly and to a high standard. Laboratory-based claims testing at TRI follows the principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). We produce accurate and timely results for our clients, and data suitable for use in claim support. The QA team at TRI works with business clients, and other stakeholders, to continually audit and improve our work programs and laboratory practices.
